This year’s end-of-season celebration was nothing short of spectacular, as Mako Paddle Club members swapped paddles for party hats at our Carnivale-themed awards day. Inspired by the vibrant chaos of Rio, our version included less samba and more sunscreen—but the energy? Unmistakably electric.

From colourful costumes to creative games, the club came together to mark a year of hard work, determination, and a healthy dose of shenanigans. While the day featured plenty of laughs and unexpected detours, it was also a chance to recognise those who made an extraordinary impact throughout the season.
Mako Award Winners
Male Rookie of the Year – Clarke
Clarke made an instant impression this season, combining natural ability with a positive, can-do attitude. A welcome addition to the Mako crew and one to watch in the seasons ahead.

Female Rookie of the Year – Mich
New to the club but already part of the fabric. Mich quickly established herself as a dedicated, driven paddler—and an all-around legend on and off the water.
Cinderella Award – Ness
From quiet beginnings to a standout presence, Ness embraced the journey and came into her own. This award celebrates that rise and the effort behind it.

Female Best and Fairest – Jacqs
Jacqs consistently led by example, with reliability, spirit, and quiet strength. Always supportive, always solid—a true embodiment of what it means to be “best and fairest.”
Male Best and Fairest – Timbo
Timbo was a standout this season, not only for his strength and consistency on the water, but for his sportsmanship, encouragement of others, and tireless club support.

Club Person of the Year – Cheryl
There’s no overstating Cheryl’s contribution this year. She kept the wheels turning behind the scenes (and sometimes on the front lines), with her trademark organisation, passion, and unwavering club spirit.
Mako Mojo Award – Amanda
The heartbeat of team energy, Amanda brought the hype, the encouragement, and the positivity. Whether it was early mornings or race days, she showed up ready to lift the mood and lead by example.
The day was a perfect mix of light-hearted fun and heartfelt appreciation, with moments of chaos only adding to the club’s unique flavour. Huge thanks to everyone who helped make it happen—from setup to clean-up, from award presenters to those who simply turned up with a smile. Here’s to another brilliant year of paddling, perseverance, and plenty more Mako magic. Bring on next season.
