Did you know a group of sharks is called a gam, herd, frenzy, school or shiver? Well, whatever its called somebody needs to wrangle a salt water tribe into a club, and here’s the Committee…
David ‘Bear Miller
President
Bear is best known for his snappy dress sense, his completely irreverent sense of humour and his skill in sweeping a dragon boat across an ocean only armed with a 48” dragon boat blade. Bear has been paddling for 13 years, stroking for 10 years and has represented his country on numerous occasions, sporting the green and gold and winning numerous National and International Titles. Bear was the mastermind behind the creation of Komodo Paddle Club in Canberra and Mako is extraordinarily lucky to have his fin steering the ship.
Kristin ‘Chicki’ Chick
Head Coach
Chicki began her coaching career when Komodo collective volunteered her for the role upon a vacancy. Since then she has coached and paddled at Club, National and International level and is itching to turn her gaze to the stunning salt waters of Jervis Bay. Oh, she is loud, unconventional, obnoxious, swears like a trooper and will inspire and drive you to achievements and performance you never dreamed possible.
Chicki is also Club Secretary and Registrar (for now)
Sonja ‘Hammer’ Hammond
Treasurer
Sonja is one of the founding members of Mako and is brilliant with the numbers. Having only paddled for two months, Sonja is as adept at paddling as she is at reconciliations. Do not let her demure demeanor fool you folks, this woman is a warrior in the boat and should not be underestimated on water or off. Whether it be chasing down a rival boat, or chasing a member for a missing payment Sonja is undeniably a foundation member of Mako and a much-loved teammate.
