Mako President Matt Gardiner officially launched the 21/22 season calendar and it promises to deliver a season like no other to the salty Mako Paddle Club members.
In a low-key press conference conducted deep in his forest headquarters, El Prez said, “It’s very exciting to feel the weather warming up. The days are getting longer, and our racing season is coming. I want to see Mako consolidate our strong racing performances last year.”
Shared Fitness Journey the Key
Taking the lead on the physical challenges Gardiner declared, “On a personal level, I’ll be working on strength, and trying to drop a few kilos off my waist. Imagine if each of us dropped 4 kilos. It’s a target, but I know I can lose far more than that.”
Gardiner has committed to the fitness program developed by famed Russian Ice Hockey coach, Anatoly Tarasov, who coached his country to gold at the 1964 and 1968 Olympics.
Reflecting on the hard work of last season and an already busy season lead-up, “Our fitness, paddling technique and race preparation are coming along well. As individuals we need to keep turning up, being positive and working hard on the water.”
Club Jervis Bay Mako Season Calendar
The 2021/22 season will see Mako travel far and wide with both NSW and ACT regattas on the forward plan. “All going well, Mako is aiming to field our first Nationals crews in the AUSDBF champs in Adelaide, said an excitable Coach Chicki. “As a competitive racing club, we are completely open to racing anywhere, and anytime.”
“Thanks to the support of Club Jervis Bay, Mako find ourselves in the fortunate position to consider a possibly more extensive calendar than many clubs.” said newly minted Mako Treasurer, Sally Casey. “With support comes options and we are after first and foremost, a racing dragon boat club.”
