With an easing of COVID restrictions, Mako Paddle Club will relaunch their dragon boat on Jervis Bay this Sunday at 9:00 at Woollamia Boat Ramp. The excitement has been building over the past weeks with Dragon Boat NSW working hard behind the scenes to manage the return to paddle planning.
“DNBSW have been amazing with the planning and kept us informed along the way and we feel confident returning to paddle under the guidelines released last week.” said Mako President and salty sea dog, Bear. “Given the small communities we live in with elderly and vulnerable people, Mako had no interest in rushing back to paddle if it created risk for others, we are confident the DBNSW COVID measures will see us safely back on the water this week.”
While measured and calm in his response, that calm has not translated to the coach and members who nearly crashed the session registration app upon opening yesterday.
“The members are gagging to get back on the water,” an excited Coach Chicki declared yesterday while doing a happy dance, “While we launched the club late last year, had some great opportunities to race, but now the thought of a full racing season ahead and the chance to race at our first Nationals is a gift indeed. When CVIS hit we were unsure what the season would look like and when we would even return to the water.”
The Mako members have been jumping out of their skins with excitement that can only be summed up with the eloquent words of Simon Katz, contacted on his Milton estate yesterday:
Interviewer: “Simon, after so many months off, you must be so excited to be back on the water this Sunday.”
Simon: “Yes.”
Yes, indeed Simon. Mako 2020 Kick-off session is this Sunday 9:00 (8:30 arrival) at Woollamia Boat Ramp
