Against all odds, and with hearts full of spirit, Mako has made history at the 2025 Aus Champs, snagging an incredible five National medals over two days of fierce Premier racing. Mako paddlers faced the country’s biggest and best clubs. Yet the regional underdogs answered the challenge with grit, spirit, and a fierce #makomojo that proved to be the special sauce.
“What we just did — a little club, against the best in the country — wasn’t supposed to happen. But we made it happen anyway,” said coach Chicki, beaming with pride after a thrilling weekend of racing. “This premier campaign was a message: It’s not about size. It’s about spirit. And no one’s spirit is bigger than ours. They can’t measure what’s in our boat — #makomojo is bigger than any crew.”
Spirit Over Size: Mako’s Secret Weapon
While medals and podium finishes rightfully drew headlines, Mako’s true victory lay elsewhere. “It’s not about size. It’s about spirit. And no one’s spirit is bigger than ours,” Coach Chicki reminded the squad, rallying paddlers to look ahead to their next challenge: the Senior A division.
