Mako officially launched their new season this week, and along with new adventures, the club is also embarking on embedding a new ‘Have a Go!’ mindset to carry the team forward while also starting the journeys of the next generation of Jervis Bay dragon boat paddlers.
Coach Chicki enthusiastically declared ‘Have a Go’ as the core of the Club’s mana for the season and years ahead. “It isn’t some quirky throwaway line meant to impress people into joining; it’s a way of life; it’s the how and why we paddle! “
‘Have a Go!’ is both the core of the new season recruitment drive but now becomes a core element of the Club’s philosophy for returning members and the seasons ahead.
For new paddlers, ‘Have a Go!’ is about making the time to add a new and exciting Jervis Bay experience to your life. Mako will ask the same of its returning members as ‘Have a Go!’ becomes about a change of mindset within the club. It can be as simple as trying out sweeping, joining a gym, benchmarking, losing weight, getting stronger, fixing a niggly injury, throwing a hand up to help out at regattas, or anything.
Mako is on a mission to inspire Jervis Bay locals who are passionate, fit, and ready to take on the exhilarating challenge of dragon boat paddling and to ‘Have a go!
Our newly installed captain, Hobo Glasso, shares his wisdom: “In the heart of every dragon boat paddler, there’s an unquenchable fire, a desire to push boundaries and explore the unknown. With Mako, we ask but one thing of every person who chooses to pick up a paddle, “Have a Go!”
