This week, Mako farewelled eight members heading off to the World Dragon Boat Championships in Pattaya, Thailand. Racing will take place from 07-13 August, with eight Mako members donning the green and gold. Over the course of the preparation, Mako has supported training camps and hosted over 200 paddlers, with Jervis Bay has now being established as the key regional training hub for the Australian Dragon Boat team.
“The support of Club Jervis Bay to purchase our newest dragon boat was the key to Mako being able to offer the training camps for the Australian Team. I can only see this going from strength to strength in the future.” Said Mako President Simon Katz.
“We are thrilled to have Jervis Bay become an Aurora’s training hub, marking a big first for the region. Our partnership with Club Jervis Bay has allowed Mako to expand our reach and provide more opportunities for members to train and compete at a higher level. We are also currently working with Shoalhaven Council to explore opportunities to build a home base for Mako at Woollamia.”
Mako Sunday Sessions for New Starters
With spring appearing early, Mako has kicked off its recruitment drive for the upcoming season. “Sundays are the perfect time to try dragon boat paddling with Mako,” said excitable club Registrar Amanda Waddell. “Anyone wanting to come for a paddle just needs to contact me at registrar@makopaddleclub.com, and we’ll have a chat. While the sessions are for new paddlers, dragon boat paddling is a very physical sport, and we want to ensure your first experience is a positive one.”
