The Mako Committee have been monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation; especially the impact it could have on you our members, and our plans for events. We have been in contact with Dragon Boat NSW, and they in turn with AUSDBF to ensure that any guidance received is in line with current best practice management for sports and public gatherings in general.
“Social distancing” is the one of the recommended activities that we all should take to help flatten the curve of spread of the virus. Dragon Boating is a sport where it is near impossible to achieve the 1.5 metre social distancing requirement, from sitting in the boat, to handling it on and off the water.
Mako will be aligning with the guidance received from DBNSW this afternoon, and in order to avoid all unnecessary social contact (within 1.5metres), we will pausing Mako training sessions for a little while. As soon as Government and DBNSW gives the green light, Mako will be back into it…like…a Mako to water.
This advice excludes individual training activities, where members should make their own assessments on the risk involved with undertaking physical activities. members should keep in mind health expert’s advice on preventing the spread of the virus including social distancing and good hygiene when taking part in individual activities.
It’s a call made to ensure the health of our members, and in turn their own friends and family. So for the moment, its an empty Jervis Bay, but we will be back.
