In the annals of great paddling adventures, the 2023 AusChamps Prem Women’s Crew will be a tale retold over many a drink at future Mako get-togethers. With the mantra of ‘all aboard’ echoing across the water, Mako will be fielding a Prem Women’s 20 crew this year with just one Premier aged paddler.
Yep, you heard that right. Our lone Prem woman paddler, Courtney Fladrich will be joined by 19 fellow Makos who are, shall we say, carrying a few more kilometres on the clock.
“Mako has made a commitment to take as many members as possible to Nationals, and we have the numbers to make up a 20’s boat, so that’s where we’ll race.” Said an excited Coach Chicki.
Club Jervis Bay-sponsored Mako is heading to their 2nd AusChamps in Albury off the back of solid performances at Luna New Year and last weekend’s NSW State Champs.
When asked about club expectations ahead of AusChamps, a pragmatic Mako Captain Ang didn’t waste time crystal balling the reality of the challenges ahead, “Mako is a very young club, and we head to Albury to race the best crews in the country. The mission for the crews to improve each time we head out to race, and where that leads us at the end of the day, we’ll just wait and see.”
