Did you know that 36 signifies helping others using creative gifts? Jewish tradition believes that the light created by God on the first day of creation shone for exactly 36 hours. Roulette has 36 numbers on the wheel, and in Māori legend, 36 gods took an active part in assembling the various parts of the first human before Tāne breathed life into her.
All the tales of 36 do, however, pale in significance when compared to breaking news received at Jervis Bay Headquarters tonight. An astonishing 36% of Mako Paddle Club have been selected to represent their State at the Australian Championships in April this year.
For a toddler club of 3 years old, this result is a testament to the hard work, technique focus, work ethic and sheer knuckle-headery of the motley crew that paddle in Jervis Bay. What a brilliant result Mako; showing that a grass-roots regional club giving back to the community can still punch well above its weight competitively and is raising eyebrows on the racecourse. Look out, Nationals, Mako are coming.
While a few first-season paddlers did not make it through, I’m sure they learned a lot from the experience and will come back hungrier and more experienced next year. Huge congratulations to:
